THUMB PRINT COOKIES - Mom
¼ cup shortening
¼ cup butter or margarine
¼ cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk
(save the white for later)
½ tsp vanilla
Mix above ingredients
In separate
bowl, mix 1 cup flour & ¼ tsp salt
Mix the two
mixtures together.
Roll into 1 inch
balls. Dip in slightly beaten egg
whites.
Roll in
finely chopped nuts, ¾ cup
Ungreased
baking sheet for 5 minutes, then remove & press hole in each cookie.
Return to
oven 8 minutes.
Cool, place
jam in cooled cookie holes.
Makes
approximately 15 cookies
